Senior Lawyer – Solicitor Practice – Corporate/Commercial

McCuaig Desrochers LLP is a well-established mid-sized Edmonton law firm with a long history of delivering exceptional client service across a broad range of practice areas.  We are committed to providing high-quality legal services and fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where lawyers can thrive.  We value work-life balance and the well-being of our people.

Our firm is made up unique individuals with different backgrounds and interests who share the common goal of delivering exceptional client service.  Our diverse perspectives creates a collegial atmosphere where collaboration and mutual respect are at the core of our success.  A positive workplace environment is key to attracting and retaining top legal talent and we strive to provide an environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and productivity.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a solicitor with 6+ years of call to step into an established senior-level practice. A partial but meaningful book of business is already in place and waiting for the right lawyer, giving you an immediate foundation of quality work, backed by experienced partners and a strong team of associates and staff.

The ideal candidate will practise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Corporate/Commercial & Business Law — business sales and acquisitions, shareholder agreements, corporate reorganizations, and commercial contracts
  • Business Succession Planning — ownership transition, family and management buyouts, reorganizations, and long-term structuring for privately held businesses
  • Real Estate — ancillary transactions, land development, and commercial leasing

We know that many capable lawyers have simply never found the “right fit” where they have been given the platform to manage their own clients and build a practice of their own. If that describes you, this role is built to provide exactly that: established work, real ownership, and the support to take the next step with confidence.

This is a partner-track position. From day one, you will manage sophisticated files, lead client relationships, mentor junior lawyers, and grow toward partnership.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor or LLB degree from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta or equivalent Canadian accreditation
  • 6+ years of experience in corporate/commercial, business succession planning, and/or real estate law
  • A demonstrated ability to independently manage complex files and client relationships
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and a genuine willingness to mentor junior lawyers

What We Offer:

Our firm strongly encourages professional development and career growth for our lawyers.  We provide mentorship (both formal and informal) and training programs to support our lawyers as they progress in their careers.  We also have regular “lunch and learn” meetings where our lawyers share both substantive and business-of-law knowledge.  We believe that investing in the growth and development of our lawyers ultimately benefits both our lawyers and our clients.

We offer a competitive and comprehensive compensation package, a supportive and collegial work environment, and a genuine partnership track.  For the right lawyer, this is a real opportunity to take on an established practice, manage your own clients, and help shape the future of the firm.

If you enjoy the practice of law and are committed to delivering exceptional client service, we encourage you to apply.

To apply, please submit your cover letter and resume in strictest confidence directly to Michael Simons, Managing Partner at msimons@mccuaig.com

We thank all applicants for their interest in McCuaig Desrochers LLP.  Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
