Patrick Coones maintains a diverse practice with an emphasis on commercial litigation, shareholder disputes, professional liability defence, executive employment law, contractual disputes, testamentary capacity and estate disputes, insurance, personal injury law, and complex matrimonial issues. He also practices in the areas of estate planning, and estate administration. Regardless of the issue at hand, Patrick helps his clients efficiently overcome their legal obstacles.
Patrick currently serves as an Executive of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) Labour and Employment and Young Lawyers sections, and is a member of the CBA Civil Litigation, Family Law, and Wills & Trusts sections. Patrick is also a sessional instructor at the School of Business in the Department of International Business, Marketing, Strategy and Law at MacEwan University.
Patrick obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in 2018. During his time at the Faculty of Law, Patrick worked for Student Legal Services of Edmonton (SLS) and Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC). He served on the Executive Committee of SLS in 2017 as the PBSC Project Coordinator.
Patrick received several awards and distinctions for his involvement in not-for-profit work, including the Genevieve Veale Memorial Award, the Emery Jamieson LLP Award and the Pro Bono Champions of the Future Award.
Having grown up in Edmonton’s French Quarter, Patrick is also fully bilingual and welcomes French-speaking clients.
